Learn to speak German while seeing, touching, handling, preparing, cooking, and tasting fresh produce. By blending language learning with a hands-on cooking class, we create a rich cultural experience for you to explore modern German culture. We make learning an adventure!
In a multi-sensory setting, your ability to learn German will be enhanced, as different parts of the brain are activated, improving memory retention. When we use our sight, hearing, touch, taste, and smell, stronger neural connections will be associated with the new language. This is supported by the theory of embodied cognition, which suggests that physical actions and sensory experiences enhance cognitive processing. Our program is ideal for anyone looking to improve their language skills while enjoying a hands-on cultural experience. It's a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the language and culture simultaneously, making learning both fun and practical. - While making a typical German breakfast and enjoying it together, we will get to know each other, practice small talk, and learn vocabulary related to the food we eat in a playful and multi-sensory setting.

- We will focus on learning how to read recipes, measurements, and numbers while baking two very traditional German cakes of the season.

- We will learn all about hosting a small celebratory dinner party, starting from writing invitations to planning, shopping, preparing, cooking and learning about some fantastic German wines and their regions. All elements of the event are explored in the German language, including etiquette and eating culture of the past and present.

- Farmer’s market tour + cooking + language class. We will meet at the Winterfeldt Farmer’s Market and shop for our lunch. When back at our location, we will create an artful display with writing and grammar exercises, focusing on engaging with fellow students and learning vocabulary while preparing and cooking a 2 course lunch.

- Dishes are seasonal
- All produce, fish and meat are high-quality, regional, and to our best knowledge, either organic or from sustainable farms.
- If you have food allergies, it is your responsibility to communicate this upfront via email, and I will try my best to work around it.
- The cooking class does NOT teach professional techniques. Basic cooking skills are preferred but not a must-have.
