Thirteen Uneasy Pieces, was a short exhibition during Berlin Art Week, presenting the newest and abstract wall sculptures by Los Angeles-based artist David Buckingham, co-hosted by Collection Dirk Lehr.

Much of my work is fairly rambunctious, loud, flashy, demanding attention, kinda like punk rock. The Color Study series is more contemplative, reflective, maybe even introspective. And ya can’t listen to punk rock all the time!

Metal found in abandoned factories and giant junk yards in the California deserts around Los Angeles, are the raw materials for Buckingham’s sculpture. He finds, cuts, assembles, drills and welds the metal in unlikely juxtapositions using brains, brawn, and a vibrant artistic sensibility. The resulting work—famous lines from movies or songs, word plays and quotes and abstract color studies resonate with ideas of cultural significance and formal beauty.

Farbiges Altmetall, gesucht und gefunden auf Schrott-plätzen, in verlassenen Fabriken und in der weitläufigen KalifornischenWüste, ist das gewählte Material für Buckinghams Wandskulpturen. Mit Hirn und Muskelkraft geschnitten, assembliert und geschweißt, entstehen Movie - und Songlines, Wortspiele aus Zitaten bekannter Filme, übergroße Pistolen mit historischer Referenz oder abstrakte Color Studies. Gekonnt in der Ausarbeitung und im Umgang mit dem Material, findet sich in den abstrakten Werken formale Schönheit mit künstlerischer Sensibilität.
